The real (and sometimes ridiculous) things that fuel my creative process.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

People ask me all the time: \u201cWhere do you get your ideas?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And while I wish I could say I retreat to a mountain cabin and commune with my muse in perfect silence… the truth is, my inspiration is a little more down to earth (and a little more caffeinated).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s a peek behind the curtain of what really gets the creative wheels turning in my one-woman studio:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coffee: The Ritual, Not Just the Caffeine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m not saying design can\u2019t happen without coffee…
But I am<\/em> saying I\u2019d rather not find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s something about the ritual\u2014the warm mug, the quiet moment before the day starts\u2014that gives me a soft mental reset. It\u2019s my signal to shift into focus mode. Some of my best layout ideas have happened mid-sip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I take mine strong, a little sweet, and always within arm\u2019s reach. And it helps that one of my good friends just so happens to make the best coffee around<\/a>!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music: My Mood Board in Sound Form<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I design with music playing 90% of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not just because it helps me concentrate, but because music sets the entire tone of what I\u2019m creating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Need clean lines and structure? Instrumental lo-fi.
Need bold, out-of-the-box ideas? Funk, soul, or something with a strong beat.
Need to keep working when I\u2019m tired? The White Stripes. Always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Music helps me get into the feeling<\/em> of a project before I\u2019ve even opened a design file. It\u2019s like an invisible collaborator in the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaos: The Beautiful Kind<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Okay, hear me out: chaos is part of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not \u201ceverything is on fire\u201d chaos, but creative chaos. The messy notes. The scribbled ideas. The 23-tab browser session that started with typography research and ended in a rabbit hole about color theory and street art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designing isn\u2019t a straight line. Sometimes I need to wander through the noise before the concept clicks. That swirl of ideas, pressure, deadlines, and spontaneous bursts of \u201cwait\u2014what if we tried this<\/em>?\u201d… that\u2019s where the magic hides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also: Nature Walks, Graffiti, and Random Conversations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some of my favorite inspiration doesn\u2019t happen at my desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It happens when I step away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A walk around my garden. A mural on the side of my favorite place to meet (and eat!). A one-liner from a friend that sticks with me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiration isn\u2019t always a lightning bolt. It\u2019s often a slow build of details that suddenly connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TL;DR: Creativity Doesn\u2019t Happen in a Vacuum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My design work is fueled by a mix of structure and spontaneity, playlists and panic, coffee and imperfect sketches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not always pretty, but it\u2019s real. And it\u2019s mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
